The truck would pick it up between 3 and 5 pm, and deliver it the following day before 11 am to the Tri-State area.

Yes, the trucking per mile is about the same, as well as handling costs, but each logistics company charges a minimum charge per load. So if they go 50 miles or 100 miles, it is the same rate. Most of the cost is for the availability of equipment.
So again, the cost of shipping is offset by the cost of warehousing.
